1950s Black Silk Evening Dress With Peplum and Beaded Collar
About the Item
This stylish 1950s black silk evening dress is a stunning combination of design features, achieving a deeply glamorous yet formal evening look. The mid-length sleeves and peplum detail in addition to skilled tailoring at the waist and hip creates a flattering, well defined silhouette. The key feature of the piece is the manner in which the delicate beadwork embellishment is incorporated in the plunging Chinese - style neckline. Tiny rocaille beads are threaded into delicate tassels and strategically draped across the front right shoulder of the garment in a gentle curve. Here, the beadwork slips through a window in the bodice at the front to create a decorative modestly screen over the breast area. The embellishment consolidates atop of the shoulder at which point it falls forwards at a playful descent, the movement of the tassels tempering the slick austerity of the black silk. In excellent condition, this piece has an air of timeless modernity and the classic line makes compliment to the bust and hips of a fuller figure. Unlabelled but of extremely high quality and likely to have been retailed in an high - end American department store. Would best suit US size 10, UK size 14.
